Gearbox repair and service

Typically, we collect the unit from the customer and then systematically strip it down in one of our two facilities. As we progress, we collect all relevant details, which are then submitted to our client in report form together with an assessment of the condition of the unit and a description of any damage found. All findings are supported by photographic evidence.
  • Reports generally include a fully-costed repair proposal but where a failure is causing lost production we enter into a more fluid dialogue with the customer.
  • Damaged components may be replaced with OEM sourced spares or reverse-engineered parts.
  • Once a course of action is agreed we rebuild with new consumables, checking limits, fits and contact patterns as we go.
  • All rebuilt units are spin tested

Site working

Our engineers are fully trained in both general safety matters (through courses such as Passport to Safety) and areas such as working with full arrest harnesses, lifting, and operating man lift equipment.
  • Experience of hazardous environments
  • Risk Assessment and Method Statements are routine
  • Experience of supporting shut-down projects
  • Experience of installation work, where we ensure correct alignment, lubrication and power transmission

Planned preventative maintenance

Total life cycle support including:
  • Condition-based monitoring using vibration analysis, generally in conjunction with bore scopic surveys
  • Asset management for many customers, who benefit from the information captured during inspections and refurbishments. This feeds into their maintenance planning

Onshore and offshore support

We have the skills and experience to help customers in the renewables sector including onshore wind operators. With re-powering onshore sites becoming more and more common, we can undertake gearbox refurbishing to extend original design life at an existing location or when turbines are put into service at a new location.
  • Main gearbox inspection and report (on-site boroscopic inspection and reporting combined with a VA report through a partner company)
  • Main gearbox repair and rebuild, particularly for 100kW and 500kW main drive gearboxes
  • Yaw and pitch slew gearbox repairs and replacements
  • Yaw and pitch slew bearing replacements and upgrades

Technical support

Frequently we provide the means to keep unique or obsolete equipment running – but repair is not always the best use of a customer’s resources, in which case we can:
  • Provide evaluated drop-in replacement alternatives
  • Provide technical support and guidance on operating practices and engineered upgrades
  • Provide ancillary equipment solutions such as prime movers, couplings and sensors
